The English for Media Literacy Massive Online Open Course Project supported innovative eLearning English teaching methodologies in 11 target regions around Moldova: Cantemir, Cahul, Balti, Comrat, Ungheni, Orhei, Tiraspol, Chișinău, Ștefan-Vodă, Anenii-Noi and Soroca and introduced 12 young Moldovan educators and 180 beneficiaries to the concept of ”media literacy”. Recruited with the support of Ministry of Education of Moldova and regional Directorates of Education, Youth and Sports, project mentors gained valuable paid teaching experience, improved their English language competence, media literacy and addressed media literacy as an aspect of foreign language learning across the country. At the end of the project, 60 most active students (5 per each site) and their mentors traveled to Chisinau to present their newly acquired skills and knowledge as presenters to a larger audience at the end of the project Conference: ”Integrating Media Literacy in Moldovan Curricula based on the MOCC Model”, organised in collaboration with Center for Independent Journalism, Ministry of Education of Moldova and regional Directorates of Education, Youth and Sports. Three local journalists attended the event as guest speakers to talk about the importance of media literacy in the 21st century.
